Serving as a pastor or spiritual leader is a sacred trust. How do we know when it is appropriate (helpful) or inappropriate (hurtful) to cross boundaries? This two-session workshop highlights the concepts of boundaries applicable to pastoral and teaching relationships. Using materials from the FaithTrust Institute (www.faithtrustinstitute.org) and other resources, trained facilitators assist pastoral and other leaders in understanding relational boundaries in their roles within the community of faith. Pastors and other church leaders who practice good self-care, are aware of what is appropriate, what is not, and whether an action is in the best interest of others, are better equipped to avoid possible inappropriate boundary violations.
All ministers are strongly encouraged to participate in Healthy Boundaries training once every five years.
Healthy Boundaries is required for ordination and for students pursuing the M28 Certificate in Theological Education. Continuing Education Units (CEUs) will be provided upon request once both sessions are completed.
